David Bowie`s Income
David Bowie   Born in Brixton, South London on January 8th 1947, David Bowie was a British rock star. Bowie was the first, and perhaps the most accomplished, pop chameleon as he wrote, produced and released a wide range of different styles of music, all under the pop umbrella. David Bowie is perhaps best known for his colourful characters like ‘Ziggy Stardust’ and the ‘Thin White Duke’, and has become an icon of pop culture. He collaborated with other pop stars, such as John Lennon and Carlos Alomar with ‘Fame’ in the mid 1970s, and was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll hall of fame in the late 1990s. Beyond the music, Bowie was also a star of the silver screen, having famously starred in Labyrinth and The Man Who Fell to Earth. Following a career spanning over fifty years, David Bowie died at the age of 69, in New York City in 2016. As early as in childhood, David Robert Jones was interested in music and started by playing the saxophone in his early teens. His older half-brother Terry was a strong influence and introduced David to a world of music and literature. After graduating school aged 16, David worked as an artist, but music continued to be his true passion. He led a group called the Lower Third under the name Davy Jones, and even produced several singles, but nothing which had popular success. David renamed to Bowie, and went solo, before recording his first, unsuccessful LP. With the release of ‘Space Oddity’ in 1969, Bowie was propelled to stardom. The BBC picked up the song and played it during its broadcast of the first moon landing. David’s next LP ‘The Man Who Sold the World’, was a smash hit, but it was the following, ‘Hunky Dory’ its singles ‘Changes’ and ‘Life On Mars’ that solidified him as a rock legend. After a flurry of hit releases, Bowie picked up on the new, growing glam scene, and created a new persona, Ziggy Stardust. The resulting album, titled ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’, was the first of Bowie’s iconic characters, portrayed by the man himself, that have made him such a memorable figure in popular culture. The 70s would be Bowies decade. He collaborated with the likes of Iggy Pop and Lou Reed, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, and released more smash albums with ‘Aladdin Sane’ and ‘Young Americans’. By this time, the music was creeping away from rock, and toward more eclectic styles. The costumes were also becoming more and more eccentric. In the 1980s, David would explore the world of film and broadway. His performance in ‘The Elephant Man’ was critically acclaimed, while his portrayal of Jareth the Goblin King in Labyrinth has since become legendary. Bowie would continue to act and write music through the 90s, with varying levels of success. In more recent times, Bowie’s prolific career was fully realised as he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame in ’96, and was awarded a Grammy for Lifetime Achievement in 2006. Bowie’s career was bookended by a late success with the highly regarded albums ‘The Next Day’ (2013) and Blackstar, released on his 69th birthday. David Bowie died just two days later, when it was revealed that he had been struggling through a battle with cancer for the prior 18 months. Bowie has left behind a musical catalogue which is full of pop iconography and musical explorations which have furthered the trajectory of rock music for all time. With 26 prolific releases to his name, David Bowie is truly deserving of the title of Rock God.
